Two men who shot fireworks at police officers and caused one to injure himself have been arrested.
A police constable and community support officer were on foot patrol at the Grahame Park Estate in Colindale, when they were attacked on Thursday (October 31) just before 6pm.
A group began to aim fireworks at the officers and were then chased by the two.
However during the chase, the community support officer fell and injured his hand – which required stitches.
Two men, 20 and 26, were arrested this morning on suspicion of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent.
They were taken to north London police station, where they remain in custody.
Enquiries are ongoing to find the others involved.
Detective Superintendent Will Lexton-Jones said: “Assaulting officers under any circumstances in an act of criminality will not be tolerated.
“In this case, the use of fireworks as a weapon shows the degree of malicious intent at play, risking severe injury or worse to officers and members of the public.
“The irony in this case is the attackers were from the very community the officers were there to protect; we appeal to anyone who has any information that may assist the investigation to speak to us.”
He added this was a “coordinated group attack” with their faces concealed behind masks and called it a “act of malice and cowardice”.
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or message @MetCC on X quoting CAD 6106/31OCT.
