The family of a man who was shot dead in Queen’s Park have paid tribute to him as someone whose “smile brightened every room he entered”.
Tikquaan Stephenson-Walters was shot dead in Bravington Road, close to where he lived in a neighbouring street, at 11pm last Wednesday (September 4).
Detectives have established that shortly before Tikquaan was shot, he was approached by a lone suspect on a white moped.
They exchanged words before the 28-year-old was shot at close range, with the moped rider then fleeing north and turning right into Marban Road.
Emergency services treated Tikquaan at the scene, but he was declared dead at around 11.45pm that evening.
No arrests have been made, but police have released two images of a suspect they would like to identify.
In a statement, the 28-year-old’s family said they had been “crippled” by their “catastrophic loss”, adding that Tikquaan was not affiliated to any gang.
They said: “Tikquaan…was a loving son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and grandson. Not only to his family but also his community.
“Tikquaan touched the hearts of many, his smile brightened every room he entered.
“He was an intellectual and charismatic young man who had no affiliation with any gang other than growing up and attending school within the local area.
“He grew friendships with people regardless of the paths they choose, he remained steadfast.”
The family added that they had been “destroyed” by his “senseless” death, and asked for privacy and respect at this time.
Their statement ended: “If anyone has any information we urge you to come forward regardless to how insignificant it may seem.
"The family would also like to take this opportunity to thank the whole community and the outpouring of love, support and tributes made for this senseless act of violence to this innocent young man Tikquaan.”
Det Ch Insp Wayne Jolley said that police are still trying to discover the motive behind the shooting.
He added: “I still need anyone who might have caught doorbell or dashcam footage to share it with us.
“You could have captured something before or after the attack that could be hugely valuable for us in bringing Tikquaan’s killer to justice.”
