Applications to Brent secondary schools for the next academic year are now open and parents may be wondering where the borough’s top secondary schools rated are, rated by pupil progress.

Pupils are now able to apply to secure a place at a school of their choice for the 2025 academic year.

The application window closes on October 31, with offers being made nationally on March 1, 2025.

We have put together a list of secondary schools in Brent that saw positive progress in pupils in 2023 according to the DfE.

The data is sourced from Progress 8 scores of the schools, which are based on progress between the end of Key Stage 2 (Year 6) and 4 (Year 11) in up to eight subjects compared to pupils across the country.

The compared subjects include English, maths, sciences, computer science, history, geography, and languages.

A score above zero indicates that pupils made more progress, on average, than pupils across England who got similar results at the end of Key Stage 2.

Michaela Community School

Pupils at the end of KS4 in 2024 at Michaela performed well above the Brent average range of 0.16 to -0.08, receiving a rating of 2.37.

And an impressive 93% of students had a Grade 5 or higher in English and maths.

JFS

The Jewish Free School was also well above average, with a rating of 1.20.

Here, 82% of pupils had a Grade 5 or higher in English and maths.

Wembley High Technology College

This was another school that scored well above the average, with a 1.14 rating.

Here, 64% of pupils had a Grade 5 or above in the two subjects.

Alperton Community School

Pupils here were also well above the average, with a 0.82 rating.

And 53% of pupils had a Grade 5 or above in the two subjects.

Ark Elvin Academy

This school had pupils well above the average, at 0.67.

However, just 29% of pupils had a Grade 5 or higher in the two subjects.

Claremont High School

At Claremont, kids were well above the average with a 0.59 rating.

And there were 61% with a Grade 5 or higher in the subjects listed.

Ark Academy

Children were again well above the average at this school with a 0.59 rating.

Here, 61% had a Grade 5 or higher in English and maths.

St Gregory’s Catholic Science College

Pupils at St Gregory’s were well above the average, with a rating of 0.54.

And 66% of children had a Grade 5 or above in English and maths.

Saint Claudine’s Catholic School for Girls

The girls at this school were also well above average, with a 0.50 rating.

However, only 34% of pupils had a Grade 5 or above in English and maths.

Kingsbury High School

At Kingsbury High, children were above average – with a 0.48 rating.

There were 46% with a Grade 5 or higher in the two subjects.

E-ACT Crest Academy

Pupils at this school were also above average, with a 0.44 rating.

Here, 38% of children had a Grade 5 or higher in English and maths.

The DfE has stressed that a score below zero does not mean that pupils made no progress, but that compared with students with similar results at the end of KS 2, their progress was lower.

It should be noted that the data for the 2022-2023 academic year follows the Covid-19 pandemic, with a return to pre-pandemic qualification standards only being made this year.

The DfE added: “There are ongoing impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic, which affected individual schools, colleges and pupils differently.

“Performance data should be considered alongside a range of other information about the school or college, which could include looking at school or college websites, reading Ofsted reports, and speaking to the school or college directly.”
