A man arrested after a pistol and eight rounds of ammunition were found in a police raid.
Officers searched a property in Buckingham Road, Edgware, as part of an ongoing operation by the Metropolitan Police cracking down on lethal weapons.
A man, 41, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and ammunition.
He remains in custody at a north west London police station for questioning.
The Met says that firearm offences are at a record low in the past 15 years.
Last year, 386 illegal firearms were seized across the capital - more than one a day, according to the force.
Detective Inspector Andy Durham, whose team are leading the investigation, said: “A top priority in the Met is to tackle gun crime and make London’s streets safer for our communities.
“Thanks to the diligent and dedicated work of officers, we have made an arrest and seized a dangerous weapon.
“Guns have no place on our streets and we will continue to do everything in our power to bring offenders to justice who pose the greatest risk to Londoners.”
