A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was “stabbed to death” in Edgware.
Police were called to Burnt Oak Broadway close to the junction with Limesdale Gardens shortly before 12pm this afternoon (May 9).
A woman, believed to be aged in her 60s, was treated at the scene for stab injuries.
London Ambulance Service (LAS) has confirmed that its first paramedic arrived in two minutes, but the woman died shortly afterwards.
A 22-year-old man was arrested earlier today in Colindale on suspicion of murder.
He remains in custody at a north London police station at this time.
Police are working to inform the woman’s next of kin, and a crime scene remains in place in Burnt Oak Broadway.
Detective Superintendent Tony Bellis, who is responsible for policing Edgware, said: “This is a significant development in this investigation and comes as a result of fast-time work from specialist detectives working alongside local officers.
“The investigation remains in its early stages, and we continue to work to establish why this incident took place, including whether the person responsible was known to the woman who died.
“I would urge people to refrain from speculating about the circumstances while this work is ongoing.
“A family has been left devastated by this shocking attack and my thoughts are with them at this unimaginably difficult time.”
Ambulance crews, a paramedic in a fast response car, an incident response officer and members of LAS’ tactical response unit attended the incident.
A trauma team from London’s Air Ambulance was also dispatched to the scene.
