A Brent Cross business park could be getting a new six-storey Big Yellow Self-Storage facility after the current one was deemed “tired and outdated”.
Plans for the Staples Corner site incorporate flexible office space to help “meet growing domestic and business needs, as well as generating further employment”.
A planning statement explained the existing Big Yellow store would not be vacated until the new one was built and opened “ensuring a seamless move across to the new store for existing occupiers”.
The proposed building will accommodate 378 square metres of flexible office space, located at the front of the building, looking on to Edgware Road and Staples Corner West Roundabout.
The offices will be managed by Big Yellow and will range in size from ten to 50sqm and can be used independently or in conjunction with storage provision.
The proposed site currently contains a car dealership which will be demolished to make way for the new store.
The planning statement calculates the difference in floorspace between the old and new site will be 15,172sqm.
Big Yellow Self-Storage has 109 stores across the UK, including 47 in London. The company says it has “identified a growing demand for both self-storage and affordable workspace” in the north-west London area.
The new development incorporates flexible office space to “specifically” target small and medium enterprises and online businesses.
