As the nights grow darker and the days get colder, the countdown to Christmas shortens.

Whether the festive time is your favourite time of year or you're more of a 'bah humbug', there's no doubt that the nights look pretty at Christmas time.

Across London, thousands of twinkling lights are strung up to help spread Christmas joy and attract thousands of tourists for the season.

From Oxford Street's dazzling stars, Carnaby's magical display and Regent Streets and St James's angles, find out when you the London Christmas lights officially lit up.

When do London's Christmas lights go on?

Oxford Street 

This year, Oxford Street will get into the festive spirit starting on Thursday, November 2 when the lights switch on.

The Christmas lights will see 300,000 stars in the sky and are in partnership with children's charity Starlight.

Carnaby 

On Wednesday, November 8 from 4pm to 8pm, Carnaby will premier its new lights display, Carnaby Universe.

The "dynamic and vibrant display of neon colour and light waves" is set to turn Carnaby into a "moving vortex".

Regent Street and St James's

Taking place on the first night, Regent Street and its neighbour St James's will be lit up on Thursday, November 9. 

Keeping their 'Spirt of Christmas' angles for Christmas, the area will be sparkling for a few hours a night every night during the festive period.

Covent Garden

Covent Garden will be getting into the Christmas spirit from Tuesday, November 7 with a whole new look.

Giant bells with bows, giant baubles, spinning disco balls and over 140,000 LED lights along with the 60ft Christmas tree will appear in Covent Garden.

Marylebone Village

On Thursday, November 9, Marylebone Village will have a new sustainable display as all lights will be made from plastic recycled bottles.

With reduced operating hours, they plan to save 58.2% of energy compared to the area's normal use at Christmas.

Chelsea 

As one of the last to switch their Christmas lights on, on Saturday, November 18, Chelsea will be ready for the festive season.

The sparkling stars and fairy lights will bring festive cheer along with an entire day of celebrations including a Christmas market.

Belgravia

Belgravia will be bringing the traditional lights on Wednesday, November 15, the launch will also see a roaming concert from London's Gay Men's Chorus.

St Christopher Place

On Tuesday, November 14, St Christopher Place will become St Christmas Place with bright colourful lights strung up.

There will also be a large Christmas tree and free festive performances taking place on Thursdays and Saturdays until Christmas.
