A valued pub which was in “constant use” is being demolished as building work on new flats begins.

It was announced that The Queensbury pub in Walm Lane, Willesden Green, would eventually close after developer Redbourne Ltd won an appeal to demolish the site in 2019.

However the pub remained open in 2022, before it eventually closed its doors for good.

It was proposed that the watering hole would be turned into a four and part-five storey building of 48 self contained flats.

This includes 14 one-bedroom flats, 22 two-bedroom homes, 11 with three bedrooms and one four-bedroom flat.

Current pictures show bricks scattered across the floor at the construction site, with scaffolding erected around the building, which was built in 1893 as a doctor’s surgery.

Ian Elliott, a spokesperson for Save the Queensbury, said when planning permission was granted: “It has been in constant use by the community since 1895 in one form or another and this decision drives a coach and horses through conservation.

"As for the pub, it became impossible to save when the pub operator sided with demolition.”
