A man who found himself in court for racially abusing two police officers insists he was just trying to insult them.
Rony Valens, 32, found himself in the dock at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on Thursday after an incident in Southall on Tuesday (September 19).
Officers were called about a fight between Valens and another man who the defendant claims were threatening his mum, the court heard.
Valens pushed an officer twice then called one officer a “white c**t” and another officer a racially abusive word towards Pakistani people.
Defending Valens, Ms McFarlane said her client explained that he isn’t racist and that he was just trying to find a way to insult the officers.
She said that if the officers were “larger people” he would have called them “fatties”.
Ms McFarlane added that Valens identifies as the same ethnicity one of the officers he insulted and that he is in no way racist.
Valens, of Haymill Close in Perivale, also pleaded guilty to assault by beating towards a police officer and possession of a blue-handled knife which was in his back pocket.
The defendant has 43 convictions for 99 offences.
He was remanded in custody in advance of a sentencing hearing.
