An 80-year-old man has died after falling from a bridge on the M1, Herts Police have confirmed.
Emergency services rushed to the northbound motorway between junctions 4 and 5, near Watford and Edgware, following reports of the incident at 9.45am yesterday (March 14).
The M1 was shut for several hours northbound between Watford and Brent Cross as police and East of England Ambulance Service staff worked at the scene.
This morning, a Herts Police spokesperson said: “It was reported that a man had fallen from a bridge. Officers attended alongside the ambulance service and road closures were put in place.
“Despite best efforts, the man sadly passed away at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.”
The incident is not being treated as suspicious and the closures were lifted at just after 1pm, they added.
An East of England Ambulance Service spokesperson said two ambulances, an ambulance officer and an air ambulance were sent to the medical emergency.
