Any regular reader of my column will know that I love to champion our brilliant Brent businesses.
Unfortunately, however, they now need ours and the government’s support more than ever to ensure they can withstand the coronavirus pandemic.
In Brent, we have some of the most independent high streets in the country and I want to see them continue to thrive for years to come. Sadly though, I have been contacted by many businesses, both small and large – some have been in the same families for generations – who tell me they may have to close their doors for good.
Whether they are businesses operating on the high street, out of the living room or are young tech start-ups, they all deserve support to survive this national crisis.
That is why I have taken action. I have written to thousands of Brent businesses offering my support and have lobbied the government, securing cross-party support for my small business campaign from MPs from all four nations in the UK. All Brent businesses must benefit from the government’s grant schemes no matter if they pay for business rates or have a rateable value too high.
If you have any specific concerns that haven’t been considered by the government, and want me to lobby the government, then visit my new dedicated webpage on my website: dawnbutler.org.uk/business-covid/
I always say that our community is our strength and never before has that been more important. Let’s get through this together. Stay safe and well.
